The Goldwell Open Air Museum is a unique outdoor sculpture park situated near the ghost town of Rhyolite in Nevada. It is conveniently located about 120 miles northwest of Las Vegas, and approximately 4 miles west of Beatty off State Route 374. This makes it an accessible destination for tourists visiting the area.
Red Barn Art Center
In addition to the outdoor sculptures, the museum site also includes the Red Barn Art Center. This is a multi-purpose studio and exhibition space that is used by artists-in-residence and other artists. Visitors to the museum can explore this space and potentially see artists at work.
Artistic Contributions
The Goldwell Open Air Museum has been enriched by the contributions of various artists between 1984 and 2007. This includes three other Belgian artists who added new works to the project. The diversity of the artists and their works adds to the unique character and appeal of the museum.
Featuring seven colossal sculptures that include a ghostly life-size version of Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting of the Last Supper, a 25-foot pink woman constructed from cinder blocks, a 24-foot steel prospector and penguin, a gleaming tangle of chrome car accessories and a finely-carved winged woman who reaches for the sun from her perch atop a wooden pillar, the Goldwell Museum is certainly no average art experience.
